So What Happened?
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009
If you are like me, you often wonder whatever happened especially if you didn’t stick around for the final result. Even if you did stick around, the end result may not have been what you anticipated.
I remember going to the Sun Bowl a long time ago, Texas was playing North Carolina and they were on the downswing while the football program at UNC was gaining new traction. I flew to El Paso from Los Angeles and met my parents at the airport as they drove down earlier that day from Santa Fe. The next day we drove to the stadium and here we were in the alumni section for UNC, my dad graduated there back in the 50′s, anyway it was a good game. My mom isn’t a huge football fan and many times I found myself explaining the game to her. By the 3rd quarter she caught on and about that time UNC had built a lead. The 4th quarter came and like most games the real game is played out in the last couple of minutes of regulation and sure enough that is what happened here. Before you knew it UNC lost the lead, there defense just ran out of gas and so Texas won.
This change of events, UNC squandering a lead due to a tired defense and Texas roaring back was much more than my mom could handle. She sat there on that cold December day looking deflated and verbalized what many in the alumni section were probably thinking “what just happened?”
Isn’t this the case in so many things?
I share all of this for no other reason than to share a football memory that includes my mom; an after all it’s her birthday so I thought I would recognize her in my own special way.
So whatever happened to my Christmas wish? Well, I didn’t receive a check for $25,000 like I hoped but I did get some donations which helped confirm the decision to go ahead and fund 21 new projects. Doing this brought our total of villages impacted this year with clean, safe drinking water to 54 which is 1 more than last year! By writing these checks our bank balance is very low, not on fumes but definitely an 1/8 of a tank but the reality is that we exist for no other purpose than to provide water so what use is the money in an account when it can be put to immediate use in India?
Think of it, I can keep this cash and earn 1% in interest or I can spend as much as possible so that hundreds of villagers in 21 different places won’t have to suffer from sickness or disease all because they don’t have water suitable for drinking. A no brainer in my mind.
What does 2009 hold for Wells for LifeĀ®?
Stick around and find out.
And don’t forget to send in your donation.
